TRIP SUMMARY

Now that runoff is starting to wind down, fishing conditions have started to improve. The river was still moving pretty fast so we focused our attention on those slower pools, transitions, and seams where trout can save some energy and still scoop up a meal. We got a couple looks at hoppers on the surface but no real commitment from trout, but if that’s what you’re looking to fish, size down on a Chubby Chernobyl or imitative hopper, or black elk hair caddis and skirt it across those soft pockets and the end of your swing. Stoneflies and baetis emergers, especially on the swing, helped us get fish in the net as well as some caddis pupa down in that lower sections of the river.
