TRIP SUMMARY

Flows are VERY low at Deckers right now but the fish are still there and willing to eat. Had a great educational day with beginners wanting to get into the sport. We spent the morning going over equipment, flies, leaders and how to rig everything up. We then moved onto casting, mending, setting the hook and fighting the fish. By lunch we were dialed and ready to fish. Being a Saturday there were several guide trips and every hole had been fished pretty hard. The nice thing about Deckers though in there is plenty of water and in the afternoon there were several open spots that were holding fish. We found a nice riffle that I could see fish actively feeding in and we were able to present some high quality drifts. Just enough lead to barely tick bottom combined with 6x fluorocarbon and drag free drifts put the odds in our favor. Size 18 caddis larvae and size 24 red midge larvae connected us with 7 hook ups in the afternoon. A great outing for first timers and made for a memorable day of learning and fishing. Needless to say, these two were “hooked”! Good luck out there!
