River Information

This small tailwater located below Gross reservoir provides great year-round fishing. SBC is in close proximity to the Denver area and should remain at the top of any tailwater enthusiast's list. The fishery itself boasts an impressive amount of species that naturally reproduce- you are likely to find a wild rainbow, brown, or brookie here.

Seasonal Conditions

Thick midge hatches will be present year-round. There is a very notable green drake and caddis emergence in late summer/early autumn. Stonefly and mayfly nymphs are also common. Dry fly fishing is great during the warmer months. Discharge can vary here- from very skinny (~10CFS) to fairly turbulent (200+ CFS). During lower flows, the dry-dropper set up works the best. During higher water, heavier nymph rigs or the tight-line approach will help get your bugs down.

River access

South Boulder Creek is best accessed via Coal Creek Canyon Road (72). The "South Boulder Creek Kayak Run" parking lot provides the easiest access. Fishing pressure decreases as you travel further downstream. The Walker Ranch Loop is the best trail to access for lower half of the tailwater.
