The season of ice in your guides and frozen waders is upon us. Don't allow the weather forcast dictate when you are going to get out this winter. The best way to combat a frigid day on the water is by being prepared. When it comes to winter fishing gear Simms hands down makes the best gear to have you feeling like you're somewhere on a beach while the thermometer reads below freezing. From your core to your extremities Simms has everything you would need. Here are five items that have made my life a lot easier on the water this time of the year.

Simms Downstream Jacket - I have been fishing with this jacket these past few weeks of winter and have nothing but great things to say about the Downstream Jacket from Simms.Made with PrimaLoft Gold synthetic insulation, (same insulation you would see in a Patagonia Nano Puff, and the DAS Parka) this jacket maintains its warmth even when wet. Simms’ exclusive cuff design was one of the first things I noticed and loved, as it has an amazingly comfortable feel while wearing, and if you don’t believe me please come in the shop and try it on!

Simms Fall Run Vest - From a core warmth standpoint, this is the one! The Simms Fall Run Vest is packed with PrimaLoft Gold synthetic insulation which maintains warmth even when wet. It include a total of three zippered pockets (chest pocket, and two hand warmer lined side pockets), and has a dual draw cord to adjust the bottom hem when you're packing on extra layers over it. The vest breaks down extremely well for maximum packability, and come in multiple colors.

Simms Guide Mid Pant - Four-way abrasion-resistant stretch fleece offers several advantages over you're lucky pair of cotton sweatpants.  These rugged stretch fleece mid pants from Simms provide awesome breathability, mobility, and wicking performance when it's needed on these cold winter days. Self fabric ankle cuffs ensure that your pants don't ride up when you put your waders on, BIG plus! This Guide Mid Pant was made to be worn under your waders and is the most comfortable pair of mid pants that I’ve used.

Simms Exstream Wading Socks - Made with 81% premium merino wool, theses highly cushioned socks will help your dogs warm and comfortable out there this winter! I also like the 16” leg length so that I can get that increase coverage on my legs. When I add a liner on these socks I literally feel indestructible out there!

Simms Exstream Foldover Mitt - By far my favorite glove for fishing our home waters during winter. The foldover mitten helps block the bone-chilling winter breeze that usually sends me to the car for some front-seat re-rigging, and can hold a Little Hotties hand warmer if need be. The Exstream Foldover Mitten also had buttons for your mitts to fold up for when it’s go time!
