Fly Fishing For Carp: Stillwater Edition

Ivan Orsic / Jun 9, 2014

When flows are high, it is a great time to explore stillwater fisheries. Close to home here in Denver we are pretty lucky and have a number of close by lakes, reservoirs, and smaller ponds. In addition to a wide variety of species like pike, small and largemouth bass, and wipers, many of these fisheries are chock full of carp. The most prevalent species is the common carp but you will also find mirror and grass carp as well.

Two weeks ago we talked a bit about fly fishing for carp in Denver’s South Platte River, below is a photo essay from some of our recent stillwater adventures. Carp are fairly easy to find and they can be extremely challenging to hook on the fly – especially when you have to cast over shopping carts. Enjoy.

If you have any questions about fly fishing for carp give the shop a call at 303.733.1434 or stop in. We can talk about flies and rigging and get you pointed in the right direction.
