The Trouts Team is headed to Orlando, FL!

Trade shows have been in our local news quite a bit lately with the announcement of the Outdoor Retailer Show signing a deal to be in Denver for a 5 year run starting in 2018.  And while the size and economic impact of this show is hard to deny, for the sport of fly-fishing there’s another, lesser-known show that keeps our industry humming.  The International Fly Tackle Dealer (IFTD) show has been held for the past 4 years during the month of July in Orlando, FL.  Yes you have that right, July in Orlando.  But while the timing and location of the Fly Fishing Industry’s show is counter-intuitive, it’s value and purpose is highly underrated, and the shops, vendors, media and guides who attend get far too little credit for their efforts.

Trouts Fly Fishing has been attending the IFTD (previous to 2009 is was the FFR show) show since it’s inception, and it has become an integral aspect of our annual buying and overall business strategy.  We meet with our vendor partners, test out all the new gear and wears for the coming year, search for exciting new products and brands, and work to ensure that our shelves will be stocked with the most relevant and appropriate product for the coming season.  This show comes at a considerable expense of time, money and resources, and as such most fly shops in our industry simply choose not to attend.  While the timing and location of the show makes it difficult to attend for many, our collective experience has taught us that the value a fly shop can gain from going far outweighs any expense one might incur.  So while so most shops choose to wait for their reps to come by and show them the new gear for the coming year, the Trouts team has been packing, planning and strategizing on how we are going to take full advantage of this opportunity not only for our brand, but that of the in-store, online and on-water experiences of all of our customers.

So starting tomorrow through Friday, be sure to follow our Instagram feed for posts and stories highlighting our time at the 2017 IFTD Show.  We’ll also be updating our website and other social channels with any and all notable products and happenings.

Lastly, Trouts Fly Fishing would like to thank the American Fly Fishing Trade Association for their past and continued efforts to put on a world-class industry trade show for the Fly Fishing Industry.  Cheers to the AFFTA Staff and Board of Directors for all that they do.
