The mental escape and release that you get from a day on the water.
Favorite way to fish (target species, style of fishing, & style of water) & why?
Over the years I have developed a bit of a Permit Fishing problem. I have yet to meet a fish that requires so much technical skill, as well as mental toughness, and the fisheries where they are found are too shabby either.

What gets you out on the water?
I just want to do hoodrat stuff with my friends. Whether I'm exploring a new fishery or heading back to an old favorite, I like putting the pieces together and getting a little peek into the natural world. Preferably with a somewhat cold beer in my hands and a good friend or two.
Favorite way to fish (target species, style of fishing, & style of water) & why?
While I've been lucky enough to fish the salt a handful of times in the past several years (honestly, am pretty terrible at it #troutset!, lol), I'm pretty partial to watching a brown trout chase down a black streamer or slowly make its way up through the water column to slurp a big bushy dry fly. It's all about the visuals for me.
Favorite Place to Fish in CO?
Any place with a good cutbank or two and a handful of wild brown trout.

I started fly fishing about 15 years ago. I was only able to take a family trip once a year until I moved to Colorado in 2014. At that point, I started getting out more and more. In the last year or so, I have gotten out very regularly and started to become avid about the sport.
What gets you out on the water?
For me, the best thing about fly fishing is forgetting about everything else. As soon as I step in the water, the sounds and focus on my flies melt all of the stress and cares away. Getting to interact with the wildlife and improve are also great benefits.
Favorite way to fish (target species, style of fishing, & style of water) & why?
I most enjoy fishing for Brown Trout with dry flies. Aggressive takes for bigger bugs and witnessing the eat makes it fun.
Favorite Place to Fish in CO?
This year I have fallen in love with the Arkansas. Other rivers hold special places in my heart, but the Ark is a force of nature. I feel so insignificant, and I can still get some solitude out there. It has been fun to watch the seasons change and try different techniques with the changing river.
What do you do when you're not fishing or at Trouts?
In my spare time, I like to shoot, cook, and do the other outdoor things that make our state so wonderful. I also collect and play retro video games. I play NES and SNES games with some of my indoor time. This year has been a crash course in fly fishing knowledge. I love to do some practice casting or reading to improve my time on the water when I can’t actually get out to fish.

What get's me on the water is the sense of adventure. I love exploring, seeing new spots, catching new species, checking out new sections on rivers, traveling to new places, and really just being outside.
Favorite way to fish (target species, style of fishing, & style of water) & why?
My favorite ways to fish are many, but if I am in Colorado I love to fish from and use my boat. And if I am doing that, I do enjoy dry-dropper fishing, but also always love to strip a streamer from a boat. If I get to travel out of Colorado, my target species is usually Tarpon. If you get an eat and a jump by a tarpon, you're pretty much addicted for life.
Favorite Place to Fish in CO?
My favorite place to fish in Colorado has got to be the Colorado River. But if I am traveling in Colorado, southwestern Colorado has been attracting me for a while now.

How long have you been fly fishing?
30 yrs. I started when I was about 18 with a broken-ass, ancient Shakspeare rod that I found in our garage. The first fish were bluegill on poppers and went down the rabbit hole from there.
What gets you out on the water?
I love the mountains, so I try to spend as much time in them as possible. I don't get too disappointed when I don't catch fish but I crave the pursuit. Moving water, the sounds of nature, and seeing something new is what keeps me going back to the stream.
Favorite way to fish (target species, style of fishing, & style of water) & why?
I like most species, but trout are my favorite. I tend to fish Hopper dropper rigs most of the time. They are versatile and I like the idea of covering multiple levels in the water column. My favorite style of water is the kind with fish in it. Pocket water is the most fun for me. Boulders, slicks, glides, tubs, and pockets, that's about as good as it gets for me!

Solace, the outdoors, the chase of varying species, communing with friends, teaching, educating, & guiding.
Favorite way to fish (target species, style of fishing, & style of water) & why?
By nature, I am an absolute streamer junkie. I love the interactive nature of the technique, the visual portion of watching your fly, and often times being able to see the target species key in & react. Additionally, I love the fact that I can strip for species across freshwater, saltwater, stillwater, etc. I can approach so many species in so many settings, but still get the same interactive and explosive experience in the eat.

What gets you out on the water?
All your classic reasons: new places, old places, good company, room temperature pack beers, and getting my old dog Gus out of the house.
Favorite way to fish (target species, style of fishing, & style of water) & why?
The go-to target species for me locally is trout! If I am river fishing I prefer throwing streamers or dry flies. However, bobber down on stillwaters is tough to beat. The eats are the main reasons why I prefer streamers or dries. Sure you might not catch as many fish as you would on a nymph rig, but the visuals more than make up for the lack of catching.
