The Best Fly Fishing Gear for Fall 2022

Jon Moore / Sep 26, 2022

Finally, the painfully hot weather is becoming less frequent, with more cool days in the forecast than not. You know what that means? You guessed it. Fall is so close we can basically taste the pumpkin spice lattes. Fall, and the cooler weather that comes with it, means a number of things, one of which is excellent fishing conditions. During the fall season, dry flies, nymphs, and streamers are all on the menu. There are almost endless possibilities of how you can choose to partake in fall fly fishing. Bring on fall fly fishing!

If you couldn't tell, we're big fans of the fall season at Trouts Fly Fishing. With that said, we've put together a guide to our favorite fly fishing gear to amp up your experience on the water for Fall '22. As always, you can find all of the products listed below both in-store and online at troutsflyfishing.com. If you have any questions regarding these pieces of gear or any others, drop us a line or come on by the shop. At Trouts Fly Fishing, we're here to help you have the most enjoyable fly fishing experience possible.

Simms G3 Guide Stockingfoot Waders

The G3 Guide waders by Simms have been our go-to pair of waders for years now. They are comfortable, breathable, and can take the abuse of countless days out on the water. The G3 Guide waders received a refresh earlier this year. We thought that we couldn't love a pair of fly fishing waders more than the last iteration of the G3, but we were wrong. The improved fit and materials make the G3 Guide waders the best bang-for-your-buck you'll find on the market. Oh, did we mention that they're handmade in the USA? That's right, handmade in Bozeman, Montana. The G3 Guide fly fishing waders also come with an impressive warranty.

Scott Centric

Scott has always been one of our favorite fly fishing rod manufacturers and the Centric will always be one of our favorite rods. Scott has put the feel back into fast-action fly rods. This isn't one of the many "broomstick" fast-action rods out there on the market. The Centric really delivers on efficiency, stability, and accuracy. The Scott Centric fly fishing rod is also jam-packed with the latest and greatest technology that Scott offers. It truly has all the bells and whistles that you could ever want. Made in Montrose, Colorado, you won't be disappointed in this hometown hero. Do yourself a favor and drop on by the shop to get one of these incredible rods in your hands today.

Ross Evolution LTX

Ross produces some of the finest fly fishing reels on the market. The Evolution series has defined the modern trout reel since its launch way back in 2003. Building upon an already impressive foundation, the Evolution LTX is the perfect combination of the Evolution LT feel and the Evolution R performance. If you can't already tell, we're big fans of this fly reel. With an ultra-smooth drag and impeccable machining, the Evolution LTX should be on your list to add to your fly fishing reel collection.

Scientific Anglers Amplitude MPX Textured Fly Line

Scientific Anglers makes some killer fly lines, and the Amplitude MPX (textured) is one of our favorites. The Amplitude MPX line featured AST PLUS slickness technology, making it the fastest shooting and longest lasting line on the fly line market. The MPX line is made a half size heavy, aiding in its ability to fully load a fly rod. Improving on the design and technology of its predecessor, the GPX, the MPX series has been redesigned with an emphasis on the mass of the head, but while maintaining a bit of finesse. We think the MPX makes a great all-purpose line. Need a do-it-all line that can throw big dries, turn over heavy triple nymph rigs, and even punch an appropriately-sized streamer on the other bank? Look no further than the Scientific Anglers Amplitude MPX.

Scientific Anglers Sonar Titan Triple Density Fly Line

Once upon a time, there lived a magical, streamer-hucking, powerhouse of a fly fishing line. This fly line was called the Titan. On a dreary, overcast day that was prime for excellent streamer fishing, the skies parted and a mystical cloak descended from the heavens. When the Titan put on the cloak that had been gifted to it by the fly fishing gods, it became... THE SONAR TITAN TRIPLE DENSITY FLY LINE. Back to reality, Scientific Anglers took one of the most popular "big fly" tapers and drenched it in all manner of tungsten powder, creating the Sonar Titan triple Density fly fishing line. It has the taper of a powerful floating line, but it sinks. If you try to imagine the perfect sinking line for throwing streamers, it turns out you just imagined the Sonar Titan Triple Density fly line. If you haven't already caught on, we really, really like this fly fishing line.

Bajio Sunglasses

Bajio is a relatively new performance fishing sunglasses brand on the market, but they are already making big waves. Bajio lenses are the clearest, sharpest lenses you'll find on the performance fishing sunglasses market. What's their secret recipe? Glad you asked. Bajio lenses focus on cutting out a majority of ultrapowerful blue light in conjunction with limiting yellow light. Most other performance fishing sunglasses companies only target the yellow light, leaving the perfect opportunity for Bajio to revolutionize the fishing sunglasses game. Oh yeah, they're also carbon neutral, conservation-minded, eco-friendly, and "in business for a purpose". Their lenses come in both glass and polycarbonate options, and can be customized with any of their mirror and base offerings. If you're in the market for a new pair of shades that will give you an edge this fall season, look no further than Bajio sunglasses. You can thank us later.

Fishpond Thunderhead Submersible Lumbar Pack - Eco

Sometimes in fly fishing, your gear gets wet. At Trouts Fly Fishing, we're not big fans of gearing getting wet that isn't supposed to get wet. *Queue Fishpond Thunderhead Submersible Lumbar Pack - Eco*. This lumbar pack is constructed of bombproof 900D TPU coated NewStream fabric*, making it more rugged and durable than you would ever need it to be. Fishpond Tacky Double Haul Fly Box

The Fishpond Tacky Double Haul Fly Box is a great option for a long day on the water in the fall. With a massive 287 fly capacity, it has the room you need to store a diverse portfolio of flies for any condition on the water. One side of the fly box features larger silicone inserts, perfect for larger dry flies. The other side features a smaller silicone insert that would be more appropriate for nymphs. If you need a box that has a large fly storage capacity for fly fishing this fall, don't forget the Double Haul Fly Box.
