Great day on the Eagle with first time fly fishers. The river was high and off color but fish were taking advantage of the increased food coming down the river. Nymphing in shallow soft water, tight to the bank produced steady action the entire day. Worms, leeches and red Midge larvae were our top patterns. Location is key in these water conditions, trout will not be in the deeper faster water that you usually fish. They will be right against the bank in as shallow as a foot of water! Focus on the edges and soft water and you’ll find fish. Saw a few caddis flying around early but no takers on my caddis offerings. Good luck out there!
