With a recent rise in flows below Dillion reservoir we decided to try and find some lower water above the lake and it did not disappoint. Flows were in the 290 cfs range and the water color was off a little making it hard to sight fish. In this situation it is best to fish every inch of a run to find exactly what water type they are sitting in. After some searching we found fish seeking refuge in the slower water in the tailouts and edges of the runs. Once we knew this and focused our efforts on fish these areas we had continued success. The top flies of the day were a size 22 black beauty midge pattern, a size 18 pheasant tail nymph and an orange egg. Don't get too hung up on fly choice, just make sure you're presenting your flies without drag in front of them and they will eat.
