TRIP SUMMARY

The South Platte is extremely active with bug life. It is what makes this area so highly coveted as a world class trout fishing destination. Lately we have been seeing outstanding dry fly action most mornings. With the proper conditions, that dry fly bite can last for many hours. Find yourself in the correct location at the right time and you will be amazed at the opportunities you may find. Slow walking speed current lines averaging 18-36" in depth, that is where I find most of my sight fishing opportunities on dry flies here. Know your bugs and come prepared! Morning Tricos(polywing spinners sz 20), late morning/early afternoon PMD(sparkle dun sz 20), even some Blue winged olives (dull parachute adams sz 22)sprinkled in there. When flows are low and clear like this we are using 6x tippet for most of our dry fly fishing.
