The Fifth Season - What Does It Mean to Us?

Ivan Orsic / Mar 10, 2017

Fly fishing for trout doesn't begin and end in the warm summer months. In Colorado, we are lucky to have access to fishable trout water year round. While winter fishing has it's place, one of our favorite times to get on the water is what we like to call "The Fifth Season."

The Fifth Season begins as we start to thaw out from the hold of deep winter and ends whenever run-off rears its ugly head. It's a great time to be on the water, bugs and fish become increasingly happy and active as they wake from their long winter slumber. What's not to love about wearing your down jacket in the morning and a short-sleeve by mid-day, fishing streamers, nymphs, and dries. That's "The Fifth Season".
