Fly Fishing Guide Report: South Platte River at Deckers

Date: December 15, 2012

The weather has changed a bit since our last report from earlier in December.  As you may expect it was chilly but no ice on the river and more importantly no ice in the guides.  The flows at Decker’s are fantastic right now – for this trip, water was holding right at 170 CFS.

We had exceptional fishing for this time of year with fish holding in the slower, deeper runs.  Eggs and midges are the name of the game. We’ve said it before…don’t put the fly rods away just yet!  A solid half-day of fishing this time of year can produce good numbers and some quality fish.

Patterns: Peg Egg (6mm), Jujubee Midge (22), Top Secret Midge (24)
